The Benefits of Dental Fillings

Dental fillings provide a range of valuable advantages beyond addressing cavities. They blend naturally with your teeth, enhancing your confidence and self-esteem.
Savor your favorite foods without concern, thanks to the exceptional stability of dental fillings. Unlike traditional alternatives, fillings maintain dental harmony by preventing adjacent teeth from shifting and stimulating the jawbone to prevent bone loss.
With proper care, dental fillings exhibit remarkable durability, frequently lasting a lifetime. Plus, maintaining them is hassle-free with no special routines required. Enjoy improved speech clarity and an enhanced quality of life with dental fillings.

  • Restoration of Tooth Function: Fillings restore the function of the affected tooth, allowing you to chew and bite properly
  • Preservation of Tooth Structure: Dental fillings require the removal of only the decayed or damaged part of the tooth, leaving the healthy tooth structure intact.
  • Durability: Dental fillings, when properly cared for, can last for many years. The lifespan of a filling depends on the type of material used and how well you maintain your oral hygiene.
  • Less Invasive: Compared to some other dental procedures like dental crowns or bridges, fillings are less invasive.
  • Improved Oral Health: By treating cavities promptly with fillings, you can maintain better overall oral health.

“I never leave reviews but the experience I have had with Dr Harps was amazing. Being a nervous patient Dr Harps put me at ease and explained everything so well. Will highly recommend for any implant work. The clinic has parking at the back and its super clean. All the staff are super friendly!!! Would recommend to all family and friends!”

“I've been using Old Park dental surgery in Hitchin for a number of years now and as someone who really doesn't like the dentist I can attest to their care and attention to their patients. I had my first tooth extraction 2 days ago and had been feeling extremely nervous, especially as it was being done with a local (in order to have it done faster). Dr Singh was great, it was my first time seeing him as I normally see his partner (who is also fantastic). Was patient, answered all my nervous questions and the process was done swiftly and pain free. Can't thank them all enough.”

Dental fillings are materials used by dentists to repair teeth that have been damaged by decay or cavities. They help to restore the tooth's function and prevent further decay.

There are several types of dental fillings, including amalgam (silver), composite (tooth-colored), gold, and porcelain. The choice of material depends on factors like the location of the tooth, personal preferences, and budget.

Dental fillings are typically performed with the use of local anesthesia, which numbs the area being treated. Patients may feel some pressure or discomfort during the procedure, but it should not be painful. Afterward, some sensitivity may occur, but it usually subsides within a few days.

The lifespan of a dental filling depends on factors such as the type of material used, oral hygiene practices, and the location of the filling. On average, amalgam fillings can last 10-15 years, while composite fillings may last 5-7 years. Regular dental check-ups can help monitor the condition of your fillings.

Dental fillings are generally safe, but some patients may experience mild side effects like tooth sensitivity or allergic reactions to certain filling materials. Dentists will discuss these risks and address any concerns before the procedure.

Yes, dental fillings can be replaced if they become damaged, deteriorate, or if new decay develops around them. Regular dental check-ups are essential for monitoring the condition of existing fillings and determining if replacement is necessary.
